Under the Stairs
Under the Stairs is a shabby chic basement cafe, five minutes from West Port, that does a good line in effortless cool and fish (in a tank). With exposed walls, intriguing recesses and a medley of old-school furniture it’s a firm favourite with the West Port book crowd. We’ve held many a productive meeting here, beer or eggnog in one hand, pitta strips with hummus in another. You could almost imagine yourself in the back streets of a city that is a lot more trendy than good old Edinburgh. The walls play host to an ever changing selection of photography and artwork; the music, under the guidance of staff in baggy jeans (or something similar), ranges from upbeat to horizontal.
