The Meadows
The Meadows is a flat expanse of grass and trees which is beloved by people with far too much energy, as well as others who like to contemplate whether clouds actually do resemble animals and other important metaphysical questions. During August, it is heaving with people and appears to shrink.
To find the Meadows from the Royal Mile/High Street simply walk down George IV bridge, past Greyfriars Bobby and continue on the right fork. This gets you to Middle Meadow Walk. To find the Victorian Fair, take a right at the Meadows crossroads and follow the path which runs past the old hospital site (a shiny and rather angular new development) and look out for people wearing a very approximate equivalent of Victorian Dress.
Or, if you’re on Lothian Road keep on going until you get to Tollcross. Take the Brougham Road fork, which leads to Melville Drive – and our Victorian Fair will swiftly hove into view.
