Opportunities

The West Port Book Festival is looking for two interns to join our team for 2011. As in 2010, hours per week will be variable, but as the unpaid nature of the positions won’t be, we’re more than willing to be as flexible as possible around such commitments as family and studies.

Ideally, candidates would be able to begin working with us as soon as possible. Key points around which we'd need a bit more of your time will be our programme launch in mid-September, just before, during and after the festival itself (mid-October).

If the internships are more of a time commitment than you're available for at the moment but you'd still like to be involved, we'd love to chat to you about what you can do and how you can be part of the festival. Email kay@westportbookfestival.org with your ideas!

If you know someone who might be interested in our internships, please do point them in our direction!

Who we are:
The West Port Book Festival is an independent book festival, all events free, based in and around the secondhand bookshops in the West Port in Edinburgh. Going into its fourth year, we've attracted big names, future award-winners and audiences of 90% capacity or fully booked for our events since our first year. In previous years, we've held four days of events in August, with one festival in June and this year's in October.

Run by a small team of dedicated, friendly individuals who also have jobs to keep, we've decided to expand our all-year staff again this year.

More information about the festival, previous years and the team can be found:
at our website: www.westportbookfestival.org
at our twitter account: www.twitter.com/wpbookfestival

Who we're looking for:
Do you have an interest in book festivals, literary events and some free time? Then we're looking for you.

What you would be doing:
Before the festival: marketing, helping organise events, publicise the programme launch, help run marketing for specific events, fundraising and some administrative experience for those who would like it. You will contribute to the festival's social media presence through blogging, twitter and facebook and help recruit advertisers and sponsors.

During the festival: help run events, the ticket booth, assist the directors when required.

We try to match people up with specific venues and events that best suit their interests and talents when thinking about how to promote or run a particular event.

There will be opportunities to specialise in social media, event administration and designing promotional materials.

Why this is a great idea and you should apply today:
The West Port Book Festival is not only a great way to learn about hands-on event organising, problem solving and making the most of your budget, we like to think it's a lot of fun, too, with a sociable team and supportive atmosphere.

How to apply:
Simply send a covering letter and CV to: kay@westportbookfestival.org
