Fundraising
The West Port Book Festival 2011 will run from 13-16th October. The programme is looking very exciting and we're particularly lucky this year to be working with some great people on a few different strands. There's only one thing better than running a slightly idiosyncratic book festival and that's being able to rely on other people to help you make a good job of it. Our only problem now, as it is for so many organisations, is money.
Now, we don't apply for funding through conventional sources, relying instead on donations from supporters, advertising and private sponsorship. We're extremely grateful to everyone who has helped us to make it to year four by donating money, time, ties and whisky.
If you think you're able to help with fundraising this year we'll be very grateful. All your money (yes, that actually means every single rusty penny) goes towards things like printing costs, transport & occasional accommodation for authors, sound equipment, presents for authors, venue hire and cake ingredients. The West Port team, the authors, and all the great people who help us donate their time for free.
Donations
Hard cash: If you'd like to donate money to the festival you'll be directly helping us to make this year's festival possible. Donations can be sent to WPBF, c/o Edinburgh Books, 145-147 West Port, Edinburgh, EH8 9NJ, or via Moneybookers or Paypal (hannah@westportbookfestival.org). You can also transfer funds to our account at the Royal Bank of Scotland: sort code, 830608, account no., 11495004.
In kind: We'd be delighted if you have a sound system that you could lend us or a home/guest house big enough to accomodate an author (or two). Alternatively, you are very welcome to donate presents for authors. Whisky is usually much appreciated although more unusual gifts can also be great.
All the best,
WPBF
